Development = I Don’t Know What’s Going On Across the Street

Things are changing so fast outside my house that sometimes I can’t even keep up with what’s going on.  This morning I was woken at 5:00am by loud, traditional Khmer music blaring from across the street.

I assumed it was a wedding or funeral. That’s what it sounded like.  That’s what it usually is.  There’s music blasting nearly every morning of the dry season in Puok.

But this morning’s music turned out to be different.  It marked the opening ceremony of a newly-finished addition to Puok’s health center.  From the looks of it, the opening was treated like a religious ceremony.  There was quite a crowd, monks chanting, tents, special presenters and lots of Cambodian flags.   The ceremony lasted until evening.

Advancing healthcare is pretty exciting stuff around here.

(And, yes, the health center is only steps from my house.  Posh Corps!)

One thing for sure is Cambodia has long celebrations! I really like how they celebrate everything! Loud music early in the morning and all day long….. Not so much!!!! Love and miss you SO much!

That is definitely exciting news, comforting, too, to know that it is so close, just in case :)
