If you follow me somewhat regularly, you’ll remember me telling you about six months ago that my host cousin was in a serious motorcycle accident in Puok. I told you that he had to have one of his legs amputated above the knee.
He’s been in the hospital (about three hours from Puok) for nearly six months. Friday afternoon he was finally released and is home in Puok now.
My host mother relayed this information to me. I haven’t been to see him. I didn’t really know him that well before the accident. My host mother says he’s lost about 45 pounds and is still in ugly shape. I’m hoping the fact that he’s home now will help him get better. He has a child and wife.
On another note, this week our live-in maid went home again—for good this time. She was only brought back to Puok temporarily to help with my host sister’s wedding at our house and the following (massive) cleanup.
Things have been a bit funny around our house without our live-in maid. For example, I’ve been locked out of the house twice since she’s been gone this week. Without her to stay at home there are times when no one is home, so my host parents lock the door, which they never did when the live-in maid was here. They forget that I don’t have a key. Whoops.
My host mother has also been much more irritable because she’s having to do so much work on top of her regular jobs. As usual, she does not let me do anything to help in the kitchen. This is frustrating.

Glad he was able to go home, Travis. Hopefully, he can continue to recover there. What a gruesome accident!
Sounds like you need to get a key to the house! How could they forget about YOU????
It seems strange that they can’t find another maid. I know it has to be frustrating to you not to be able to help!
Happy that he is home! Sad that they won’t let you help!!!! You could make her life so much easier with your help! Hope his recovery is speedy with her cooking!!!!!! How did you get back inside???? Sure do love and miss you!!!
Thanks Mom. He lives in a different house with his own mother, father, wife and children. So my host mother doesn’t really have to do much for him, she’s just been visiting. I don’t think anyone’s really that hopeful about a full recovery at this point. They told me he can talk and his brain works fine, but the challenges of being a new amputee seem pretty daunting at the moment. I guess his appetite isn’t back to normal, etc. He still needs help with everything and will for a long time.
I hope you found something good to do while locked out. If your host mom would let you help cook you could learn how to make some of the great looking food for the Thompsons. I hope the cousin finds a reason to get better by being with family. Love reading your post.

Good to hear that your host cousin is home. I hope being home will haelp with his recovery. I am sad your host mother hasn’t found other help and sorry she won’t let you assist. I am glad you are back in your room, but hope you won’t be locked out too often. Love, Kaki
